Through a friend I recently had the opportunity to be one of the photographers at a Roller Derby Event here in Tuggeranong Canberra.
It was for the Varsity League and featured the local DisHonor Rollers against the Murderous Crows from Wagga Wagga, and with no love between the two sides it was going to be a blood bath……
This night was going to be a very special night for me as I have not only been waiting to see a roller derby event for some years, but I had the rare chance to take my daughter along as she got her very own media pass…. 🙂
With her camera and media pass in hand she was off to capture the nights events and what a fantastic job she did. She must take after her dad I think. 😉
The night started off with the referees sizing each other up
before the girls came rolling out in what looked like a rugby maul..
Before you knew it the action was under way and the cameras were running hot….
Not only was the action on the floor cranking along but the music from Ardanien Entertainment was filling the room, and with Vinn behind the turn table it wasnt long as I found myself dancing along to the tunes….
Well my dancing was soon replaced with the pros from Breath Dance Studio, and let me tell you I think they make it look a whole lot better than I do.
The dances spent some time in the crowd and I think most of them really enjoyed the experience.
I must say after all this hard work it was great to kick back and have a beer or two with the great guys from Duxton..
With the night just about over it and the DisHonour rollers smashing the Murderious, it was time to say my good byes until another day.
I would just like to thank everyone that attended and help put on such a great event. I felt really at home and I know me apprentice just loved the night.
