Follow me shooting

I had the pleasure of shooting a dance event a bit back and I thought I would try something different and document my night so you can see some of the things I do as I wander around the many events I attend each and every year…

So have a gander at my short little video and appreciate all that is me freezing my arse off while trying to set my focus… or in this case not focus. lol

Invest in yourself

Today is not only my birthday but it also marks a new beginning in my photographic journey. It is a day in which 2 new Canon 5D IV arrived on my doorstep to close off the final pieces in part of my photographic business plan.

It marks the day which I now have all the equipment I need to be able to shoot on location at events and the images I take are sent live across a wireless network to portable Wacom Workstation Pro table, where an assistant will process before uploading the images to either my online store or a Google Drive account where my clients can access them within minutes of the images being taken.

For competitions, I can now shoot while these images are being worked on in the background and never need to walk away from the action. Competitors can now get access to view and purchase images of themselves and their achievements within minutes, not hours, days or in some cases weeks.

Gala and awards clients will now have access to their images before the celebration drinks have been finished and allow them to capitalize on their own marketing of their events.

For weddings, the bride and groom can have access to their images in the fastest possible time as they can not be processed while we are still shooting the event.

Over the last month, I have been investing heavily in equipment as to bring the dream of being able to delivery super high-quality professional images to you in lighting speed, speeds that are not normally associated with progressional event photography.  I know you are going to love this new service as it takes event photography to a whole new level.

Bring on a new beginning and remember to always back and invest in yourself. 🙂

SOS – Salsa On Saturday!

On Saturday night I popped out to a salsa dance event and I must say it seems like forever since I photographed any form of dancing so it was great to be back to capture the fun and enjoyment that is dance, but also see some familiar faces which I had not seen in some time.

Salsa on Saturday is an event that is run monthly to allow a salsa dancing community to get together and have a bit of fun and what fun they did have!!

If you don’t believe me have a look at this group shot. 🙂

Our Paths Take Different Directions

What a weekend end that was, and to some extent it still continues for a few more day for me until I get back home late this week.

A couple of dance events done, a couple of one-on-coaching sessions done and a couple of hotels done and a whole list of fast food done.

The FATD comp yesterday was an interesting one. One of which I didn’t expect. The CEO of FATD and friend of mine Neale Byrnes has resigned, and with the parting of Neal he also takes with him his family and my friend Winsome Abrams. she helped him in all the events and will be missed if our paths no longer cross.

Now a good friend of mine Rachel Lemon mentioned to me on a post today that dancing events isn’t all about photography but they are about dance, now while this may be true (the jury is still out) what they are about is getting out and spending time with friends and it doesn’t matter the style.

From the LDA ball on Saturday night to FATD comps and the dance events in New Zealand they all have a common bond and share something that is quite special – friendship!

Thank you everyone that I have meet through dance and thank you all the people I will meet through my job as en event photographer. It is truly an honour and a privilege to be and share a part of your lives even if it is 1/200 of a second at F2.8 and ISO 3200.

Take care everyone an I truly hope to see you all again at the next event or outside of dance. 🙂

Latina Dance Australia Ball Behind the Lens – Boy what a night….

I covered that LDA (Latin Dance Australia) ball last night at NIDA and boy oh boy, what a performance.

The stage was fantastic, the lighting was awesome the sound was perfect but all that didn’t come close to quality of all the performances.

That should all be very proud and from what I saw and experienced late night I can see why LDA is the biggest Latin dance studio here is Sydney.

When people talked about LDA they spoke of being with their family, they spoke about being with their friends and the spoke about being at home.

This culture is very difficult to create and can only be created in the hearts and minds of the people that attend of a very loving and supportive environment.

It was really nice to see and be part of I feel very privileged and honoured to have been invites to such and event and experience.

Here is just a couple of shots from the 3000 or so images I took last night.

Now to have a quick shower and head off to the FATD souths competition that is running here at Sydney Olympic Park Sports center, where I can bring you some BHL of ballroom and Latin dances from all over Australia.

See you later and enjoy the Sydney weather as it’s going to be a fantastic day.

The Emeralds auditions

On Sunday had the pleasure of attending the Emeralds cheerleader auditions. These cheerleader group and the official cheerleaders for the NRL Canberra Raiders, and while the season is just finished they are ahead of the game to go along and secure the group for next year.

I must say sitting in the corner of the room taking photos of the event was kind of awe-inspiring in the fact that these girls were shown a routine I have never seen before and were then asked to perform it.

I for one have no idea how they did it!! But it was awesome and I captured some really fantastic shots.

Here is just one of the images captured with the rest of follow in due time.

A moment in time

Part of being an event photographer is that I get to go to these really cool places, and capture all sorts of things, and one of those cool places I went to a few months ago was the Australian’s salsa open in Sydney.

There was a large event spread over three very long days, but they were fantastic days. I got to meet lots of people, make new friends and capture some really interesting shots. And this is just one of those.

Now I’m not sure how they got into this position or even how they got out of it, but it does make for an interesting action shot.

STOMP 2014 – The photos are up and ready for purchase

WOW what a night last night was at STOMP (  There was a kick arse crowd and fantastic performances.

The Latin dance community here is Australia is so supportive of events such as this and is clearly shown as there were a lot of people come down from Sydney just to attend or perform at this event. They have such big hearts it is just amazing….  Now I think about it the Latin community in New Zealand is just as amazing and supportive of charities and each other….  it is very refreshing I must say.

The night started off with bang as I accidentally dropped one of my lens from about 7 feet as I was climbing across chairs across the the floor.  Thank god the glass was still OK but as I was later to find out a soon enough the zoom and the focus had issues with a lot of images that the camera said were in focus but were not, which is a real bummer considering all the profits from the sale of images I am donating back to the STOMP charities, and with less images means less profit and money for the selected charities. 🙁

What can I say about the performers other than they were fantastic….. not only for their performances but the support they show for such an event.  It takes a lot of time and effort to put together a performance and they all did us proud.   So well done to all of you.

If there was one thing that beat the performances it was mechanical bull…  Yes ladies and gets they had a mechanical bull…   How freaking cool is that!!!!!!! I could of spent the entire time photographing people riding and ultimately  falling of this said bull. 🙂  It was a heap of fun.  I am not sure what the cost of the bull was but if you want more information pop over to their website at

Also I must say a big thanks has to go out to LDA (Latin Dance Australian – with Nestor and his gang.  They not only support the event very year but a fantastic people behind the scenes.

I think I could babble on for ages about all the people that help put on such an event but instead of doing that I will show you the photos instead. 🙂

All profits from the sale of the images will go back to the charities that STOMP support so please dig deep.

Here is just one of the many images that I took last night.  The rest of the images can be seen in my on-line store off the menu.

Australian Salsa Open – Quick photo edit video

I thought I would share a quick video of me post processing one of the photos from the Australian Salsa Open in Sydney the other week, where I was the official event photographer for.

Great work.

National Capital DanceSport Championships (NCDC) – Saturday photos are up.

Well after what was a very very busy week for me catching up on 1,000’s of photos not only from the National Capital DanceSport Championships (NCDC) but the Australian Salsa Open in Sydney the week before I have now processed and uploaded the photos for the National Capital DanceSport Championships (NCDC) Saturday competition to my on-line store. YEAH…

This year I wanted to do something different than last year, I wanted to put some effort in creating some truly outstanding images.  Images that really showed the feeling of dance to the rest of the world..

I wanted to show the beauty and glamour of such a sport and bring in a touch of class to my images.

For me to do this I had to concentrate on the quality of the image so unfortunately as part of that I was not able to capture everyone and only a select few that came appeared in the picture that I had created in my head.  So if I didn’t manage to capture you, I am truly sorry.

If you did miss out or want to ensure I capture you at the next event you can pre-book a photographic package that will ensure that I am there to capture every move and you will get images of your performance but in in a different style that will make you not only stick out from the crowd but give you something to cherish for generations to come.

Now sit back and go order some photos from my on-line store!!!! 🙂

The Stomp Charity Dance Event for 2014

Each year the Latin dance community puts on a charity dance event that not only is a great night out but OMG its a dress up as well……

Now last year I popped along not know what it was all about
and was totally surprised by how professional the event was, not to mention the number of people rocking the floor.

From a strict entertainment point of view, this is a great night out…  The show that they put on is fantastic and while it comes across as a Latin dance event it is soo much more…

They have a full on night filled with performances of all sorts and last year they had like a circus of performers along with the most exceptional dancers from all styles that you could imagine…

Now one of the best things about this event is not that it is a great night out, has more than enough entertainment to fill they Sydney harbor or that it has more rock than the rolling stones…  No…  Its because every single cent raised from this event go to charity!!!!

All the organizers work for free.  The equipment is for free and I am also working for free..

Last year was a rocking year for the event and I know to talk to Mark (organizers)  has some very special things lined up for this year.

So what ever you are doing in your calender on the 26th of July go along and cancel it NOW and rebook to come along to this great night out at the Albert Hall here in Canberra.

On of forgot to mention that this years theme is Mythology so you have to come dressed up in that theme and take it from me you will only feel left out if you dont come dressed up….

What more info them pop over to their facebook site or drop me a line.

National Capital DanceSport Championships – Congress

If you attended the 2014 National Capital DanceSport Championships Congress I have a special treat for you…

I am giving away all the photos from the Congress…  Why would I do such a thing?  Well easy really..  I see the future of dance and the extraordinary levels that were on display at the NCDC through the attendance of people to Congress.

The talent that was before the people was awe inspiring and I don’t dance!!!!!  I was surprised about sitting there listening to the presenters that they all had a common theme.  A theme that was not solely dance related.  They spoke about the challenges they faced and how they overcome them, they spoke about the mindset that it takes to succeed and they spoke about the commitment to give it there all even though it was tough..

This my friends was not a dance congress but a life congress.  Well done to everyone that attended as you are taking steps in the right direction to not only becoming a better dancer but a better person.

So if you did attend the congress you are free to download any or all of the images from my website.  Simply click on dance from the menu on the left then select the Congress gallery.  From there you can open the images and right-click to save them to your computer. 🙂

National Captial DanceSport Championships – From the floor

What a great event this is. I get to catch up with my photographer friends and get to catch up with my dancing friends.

It goes without saying the outfits are spectacular and really are a treat. The event does for today and tomorrow so if you are interested in ballroom and Latin dancing you really need to come out and check out the action..

Here are just a couple of the shots from the event hot off the floor… 🙂

Learn how to dance in Auckland New Zealand – Aussie Style

Now for anyone that knows me in the dancing circles I don’t know how to dance.  Not that I don’t want to learn how to dance it is just that I don’t know how to dance.

I would really like to learn how to dance and while in New Zealand I came across a dance studio out of Auckland that would help me… Viva Dance Studios….  How did I come across and studio that would help me show me how to dance in Auckland… Easy….  The director of the New Zealand Salas Congress Saione Greer is also the director of Viva Dance Studios.

He is one of the nicest blokes you could meet… He is out to help everyone and even though he is a busy man has time for everyone…  Which to me in my business is a nice change?

The students from Viva Dance Studios are also a pleasure…  and watching them perform was also a sight to be seen.

Most Aussies dance like me I am sure…. Beer in one hand and no interest in the other…. but I must say when you see these guys crack off a move you just wish you could be part of that….. and the reality is that if you live in Auckland you can…. Learning how to dance in Auckland is just as easy as calling up any one of the dance studios but I must say given my experience you should give Viva Dance Studio the first go.  Not because their students put on a show at the New Zealand Salsa Congress and not because they are located in New Zealand’s biggest city but because they are just nice people..  My time spent in New Zealand was sooo much better thanks Saione Greer hospitality and for that I thank him.

In fact, her is a photo of him in action..  🙂
