Mmmmm 5 degrees…..

Well at least we are going to have a top of 22 today which will be nice.

I am sure I will get to see some of it as I drive from place to place ducking in and out of shops to pick up supplies and drop off orders.

How did you go on the long weekend? Was it productive and enjoyable, what cool things did you get up to? And more importantly share some of your photos with me!

Sydney – the land of the great long train station

Being up in Sydney is kind if like being a kid in a candy store.

As a photographer there are soo many things here to photograph and the textures and feeling of the place is sooooo different to Canberra.

Canberra is very organised and clean. Sydney is the other end of that.
Canberra has very little in the way of mess and things that just seem out of place and Canberra is very straight faced. Sydney is not.

Let me give you a prime example. The other night when I got back to my room at 2am after covering a the LDA (Latin Dance Australia) ball, I looked out across my balcony into Sydney Oylimpic Park where I could see an large area if grass and on that grass to my surprise there were 6 people kicking a ball around. What the hell is with that….. It’s 2am and you are out kicking a ball around…. Ha ha ha

Another example, as I look out my room I see many different things to photograph one of which is the train station.

This train station only goes to one other stop and sits in among old and new buildings, some of which you will see in future blogs after I get the chance to photograph them over the next day it so.

The mix if old and new but mainly old is quite fascinating to me and when I see old houses I just want to be able to walk in to see what is there, I want to be able to take photos and capture the stories that these building have gained over the years and I just want to capture that essence and feelings contained with in those walls….

So let me throw this out to you. Take some photos of where you live and capture all those things I just explained and send them to me. The best photo that tells a story if the place I will post on my blog next week when I get home, along with a quick interview with the winner, so they can tell the world what it is like to live where you live and tell everyone the feelings that are contained in your image.

Good luck and if you need a hand or after some ideas drop me a line.

So hope to it as you have until next Monday.

Have a great da and enjoy the Sydney sunshine and great weather.

Our Paths Take Different Directions

What a weekend end that was, and to some extent it still continues for a few more day for me until I get back home late this week.

A couple of dance events done, a couple of one-on-coaching sessions done and a couple of hotels done and a whole list of fast food done.

The FATD comp yesterday was an interesting one. One of which I didn’t expect. The CEO of FATD and friend of mine Neale Byrnes has resigned, and with the parting of Neal he also takes with him his family and my friend Winsome Abrams. she helped him in all the events and will be missed if our paths no longer cross.

Now a good friend of mine Rachel Lemon mentioned to me on a post today that dancing events isn’t all about photography but they are about dance, now while this may be true (the jury is still out) what they are about is getting out and spending time with friends and it doesn’t matter the style.

From the LDA ball on Saturday night to FATD comps and the dance events in New Zealand they all have a common bond and share something that is quite special – friendship!

Thank you everyone that I have meet through dance and thank you all the people I will meet through my job as en event photographer. It is truly an honour and a privilege to be and share a part of your lives even if it is 1/200 of a second at F2.8 and ISO 3200.

Take care everyone an I truly hope to see you all again at the next event or outside of dance. 🙂

LDA BHL

Latina Dance Australia Ball Behind the Lens – Boy what a night….

I covered that LDA (Latin Dance Australia) ball last night at NIDA and boy oh boy, what a performance.

The stage was fantastic, the lighting was awesome the sound was perfect but all that didn’t come close to quality of all the performances.

That should all be very proud and from what I saw and experienced late night I can see why LDA is the biggest Latin dance studio here is Sydney.

When people talked about LDA they spoke of being with their family, they spoke about being with their friends and the spoke about being at home.

This culture is very difficult to create and can only be created in the hearts and minds of the people that attend of a very loving and supportive environment.

It was really nice to see and be part of I feel very privileged and honoured to have been invites to such and event and experience.

Here is just a couple of shots from the 3000 or so images I took last night.

Now to have a quick shower and head off to the FATD souths competition that is running here at Sydney Olympic Park Sports center, where I can bring you some BHL of ballroom and Latin dances from all over Australia.

See you later and enjoy the Sydney weather as it’s going to be a fantastic day.

Spring Zing for 2014

Spring Zing is done and dusted for another year and what an fantastic event it was.  With over 250 kids all dressed in fancy dress I had my work cut out for me as they lined up in a constant stream to get their photos taken.

It was super fan and with the music pumping next to my portable studio it really went off….

Now for those of you wanted to know when the photos will be up, the will take a week or so as I am out of town for the next 5 days in Sydney covering different events up there so I wont have time to get to them until I return but looking through them now, the will be worth the wait. 🙂
