After a late night was up the crack of dawn to attend this years colour run here in Canberra. Last few years I’ve popped out there as a photographer however this she was different. This year I was a participant!
The fun and the joy that is the colour run is always something that brings a smile to my face and every other person that attends. The music and the vibe is upbeat and with volunteers along the way giving everyone words of encouragement it truly is an event for people of all fitness levels and in fact I think they should rename it to – The Colour Walk and Fun!
I’m not sure on the numbers that were there today but I would have a guess it would have been in excess of 20,000 people but it is hard to tell as the run is split over a period of time people get released in blocks to avoid a mad rush at the beginning.
After getting completely covered in coloured cornflower and bubbles I knew that I couldn’t let this opportunity pass me by so what better reason to take some more photos.
This I friends is what the colour run looks like at the end!
As part of the the mandatory photography took Kit you need to GoPro and a Seflie stick.. 😉
Why do you need such mandatory tools??????
well it’s so you can capture some really crazy shots from a high of taking in large amounts of your environment because of the ultra wide lens.
This was just one of the stations along the way without a snow/foam making machine that pumped out tons of the stuff….. Now if I could only get one of these for a photo shoot that would be awesome!!!!
Now that you have run your ass off on what is the happiest 5 km of your life, you get to have a party and what a party it is….
Disclaimer: ok ok ok no one actually does run the colour run which is why I think they need to re-name it to the colour fun.
If you have some photos of your colour run I would love to see the as I cannot get enough of colour, glitter and the fun that is the colour run!
All that’s it for another year and I can’t wait to photograph all the action next year!
Going through and doing some house cleaning to cut over to a new year, I noticed that in the last year I only kept 75,504 (I delete the photos that don’t make the cut) photos and clearly I take December and January off. hahahahaha
Maybe it is too warm or I just like getting out and about in the summer. 😉
When I conduct classes and workshops people ask me what is the best thing they can do to improve their photography…. My answer is always the same… practice, practice, practice…. On average my students take around 7000 photos a year. I personally don’t think when you are learning that 7000 a year is enough. 🙂
The more you take the more you learn and the better you become. 🙂
One of the joys of being an event photographer here in Canberra is I get to go out to all sorts of places at all sorts of hours – typically night hours as that is when people are having fun and I must say I just love the idea of meet lots of new friends. 🙂
During the week I had an opportunity to photograph for the lighthouse pub in Belconnen where I didnt start at 11:30 PM and photographed till 2 AM. I must say the time went super quick and it was such a blast that I didn’t want to leave.
One of the great things of the night was the staff. 🙂 They were all so welcoming and were more than happy to help and offer locations where I could get shots from. (even though they were really camera shy)
I must say when the owner has such a smile on his face for all this clients then its a good sign you are in the right place. 🙂
Doing what he does best… and that is puring the working event photographer a water… hahahahah Thanks mate for being my model 🙂
Well well well.. One of the things I take very very very serious… and that is people that don’t like their photo taken…. this young lass avoided me like I had the plague…. but what she didn’t know is that before she knew I was there I got this shot… the rest of the shots was just me messing with her head. haha
This welcoming feeling washed through the place like a tsunami and effected everyone in the place.
All the people that were there had such a great feel and were super happy and just loved getting their photo taken, with some just loving the idea they can take photos of others. 🙂
If you are out and about tonight have a great time, and be kind to the photographer as they are there to make you look freaking awesome. 🙂
You have an event, party, wedding, corporate event and need a photographer… Drop me a line and lets see if I can help you out. 🙂
I have dedicated my photography career in the pursuit of capturing the very essence of what I am photographing so as to bring the “forever memories” back to life. Through this, I now have the ability to share my years of experience with you through my on-line courses.
“Yes, I was very pleased with the photos. I was hoping for a nice family picture but ended up with so much more...I love the story behind the photos (like the fake laugh!), hence me ordering a number of the candid ones. My mum is visiting at the moment and she picked a few for herself too which is great."

"I've been dancing since I was three years old. For me, dancing is how I express the depths of who I am, each fluid movement allowing me to tell a story about an emotion, a time or a person.
What I loved about Brendan was his ability to capture that expression, story, and reveals more about me that a simple happy snap."
