Hey Look at All the Toy Cars!!!

Photography is a unique type of visual art, it allows you to capture things in front of you and change them in such a way that you can create art and in some cases deceive the viewer of what they are actually seeing.

One of these deceptive techniques is the use of a tilt and shift lens, where it sets the focus on a plane across the image instead of a circular focal point like a normal lens. The cool thing about this is it messes with the way we think and the way we perceive images. Generally when we see this in real life and with their own eyes it’s because we’re looking at miniature objects and the focus is blurred at the front and behind the image any unique way.

So in my recent trip to Sydney I decided capture couple images from up in my hotel room to have a play this technique as it is something that I have never really played with before.

Have a look at this image and tell me what you think?

And then he was done!

As I look back over the last few days I must say I could never of planned or even considered how my fantastic my trip was going to be.
Was it super busy?  Yes.

Did I get some fantastic photos? Yes I think so.

Did I take full advantage of my time away? Yes.

  • Meet a heap of new people
  • Caught up with people I have not see in some time
  • Had a super cool early morning tour around the rocks with a good friend
  • went walking in the rain
  • had multiple nights out
  • Had dinner with some truly wonderful people.
  • Got a chance to really get to know some friends
  • Learned a lot
  • Hopefully enlightened others while coming across more hipsters that I would like to count. 🙂

While I was away I had some bookings come in at short notice and while I wasn’t able to help out the clients and I found support from my fellow photographers, and to them I send them my thanks.

This adventure comes to a close a new on will open tomorrow and I must say I am excited to see what and where it will take me.

As I head home i get ready for the next asventure.

Rush rush rush

Life can be really busy for us all and I know for me I sometimes look back and wonder where the last month or two months has gone.

We have work and family and we all still have to make time for ourselves.  A lot of friends that know how busy I am ask me when is it that I make time for me.  Time away from work and time to recharge?

My answer is always the same.  I get my energy for taking photos, capturing the moments in time that others take for granted.  It gives me time to relax and look at the world in a different way and to see the things we all miss in our ever increasing busy lives.

No other time is this true than at your own wedding.  The day flies by and before you know it, it’s over and your new life begins and the only memory you have of that special day is the photos of your wedding.

So if you are feeling stressed and need to wind down I can highly suggest you take some time to take some photos.  Grab that camera and just walk.  Walk to places you have been before and look at it with a different eye, an eye for capturing the small things, the things you see every day and I am sure you will be surprised how relaxing and interesting this will be.

Styled Couple – Sneak Peek

After what was a bit of a long and somewhat cold day we managed to get a couple of shoots completed and with a very happy team…  😉

Glad I took along hot coffee and tea as it went a very very long way in keeping the team happy when it is -6 on location in the middle of civic…  Well done guys.

With a good few hundred images to sort through to get the top 10 its going to be a tough call, however to get the ball rolling here is just one of the hundred of images and a bit of a sneak peek in to this mornings antics.    Enjoy

Work Underway!

As I write this at 5:15am the rest of the team has been well underway for at least 45 minutes and awake for much longer than that.

I have a team outside already onset building up a theme with cupboards, lights and other nice things, while the other half of the team is in makeup getting ready to be part of this wonderful looking set that is under construction!!!

With the current temperature sitting at -4 and will drop some more it looks to be for a chilly start to the day, which for me will end out with the releasing of Ballina and the end of my shooting day at 6pm tonight. 🙂

This is the life of my industry and one that people don’t see or can not understand.

It takes commitment not only from me but a team of people behind me to make the shots and a team of people that I truely do appreciate.

Today will also be a fantastic induction for one little lady into the industry as she will be my shadow today doing work experience as part of her CIT photography course, and to her I only say one thing…..  Welcome!!!!!
